This is one of the best weeks of the fall for anyone who grew up with a controller in the ’90s. Two retro-inspired games land back to back.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse — Thursday, October 15
Konami’s new Castlevania is developed by Evil Empire, the studio behind much of Dead Cells’ post-launch life, with Motion Twin advising.
The setting is medieval Paris in 1499, where monsters suddenly pour out of the shadows. You play Rose Belmont, the latest in the family line of vampire hunters.
What to expect
- A true Metroidvania. Despite the Dead Cells pedigree, this isn’t a roguelike. It’s non-linear 2D action-exploration with save rooms, fast travel and key items.
- A trapeze whip. Rose’s whip doubles as a traversal tool, letting you swing through rooms like a trapeze artist.
- Classic and new bosses. Death, Medusa and Carmilla return, alongside new foes, including Joan of Arc.
Price and platforms
- Standard Edition: $29.99
- Midnight Edition: $39.99, adding a digital Sound and Art Gallery with 100+ illustrations plus bonus in-game items
- Pre-orders on both editions include an Alucard costume
- Launching on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam and the Xbox app)
Switch players, take note: early coverage said the Switch version would come later in 2026, but a more recent Gematsu report says it launches on October 15 alongside the rest. Double-check Konami’s official channels before you buy.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 — Wednesday, October 14
A day earlier, Boltgun 2 brings back the chunky, pixelated, boomer-shooter take on Warhammer 40K. The first game was a cult hit for its fast movement and gloriously loud weapons.
The sequel lands on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. Reviews aren’t in yet, so check back.
