PlayStation 5 owners will have to wait a little longer to race through Japan. Playground Games has confirmed Forza Horizon 6 arrives on PS5 on January 26, 2027, timed to launch alongside the game’s first expansion.
Why the delay?
According to the official announcement, the move is mainly about lining up the PS5 launch with the first expansion, so PlayStation players can start with the bigger package.
The Verge’s Tom Warren reported the delay ahead of the official confirmation.
Key dates
- January 21, 2027: Premium Edition owners on PS5 get in five days early. The first expansion also goes live on every platform that day.
- January 26, 2027: Standard PS5 launch.
What PS5 players get
- Two visual modes: 4K/30 FPS Quality and 60 FPS Performance
- Cross-play and cross-save with the Xbox and Steam versions, so you can race friends on any platform
About that expansion
Details are still thin. It will add a new location, more cars and, per Playground, “fun new gameplay to engage with.”
Reports differ on how it will be sold. Some say it’s included with the Premium Edition, the Premium Upgrade and the Expansions Bundle, or sold separately. Game Informer, citing Playground’s blog, reports it will be a free content update for all players. We’ll update this story once Playground clarifies.
Forza Horizon 6 topped Metacritic’s best-of-2026 midyear list with a 90, so PS5 players are getting one of the year’s best-reviewed games. It’s just arriving a few months later.
