Diablo IV Patch 3.2.3 Is Live: The Prime Evil Powers Fix That Won’t Save Your Stuck Character

Diablo IV patch 3.2.3 is live today across all platforms, and while the version number is small, the fix list matters a lot to Season 15 players. Build #73883 is a targeted bug-fix pass headlined by a fix for a nasty seasonal issue that could permanently lock a character out of Prime Evil Powers — and the important part is what the patch doesn’t do for players who already ran into it.

The headline: a Prime Evil Powers lockout, fixed going forward

Season 15’s core new mechanic revolves around the Splinters of a Prime Evil. Finish the seasonal questline and you choose a Splinter — Hatred (Mephisto), Destruction (Baal), or Terror (Diablo) — which opens up a reputation track and unlocks Prime Evil Powers, ground-effect eruptions that boost damage, resources, and utility. They’re central to every endgame build this season.

The bug: a character could pick up and use a Splinter before finishing the seasonal questline. Doing so broke the questline for that character — and because completing the questline is what grants access to Prime Evil Powers, the affected character was locked out of them entirely. Not slowed down. Locked out.

Patch 3.2.3 closes that hole so it can’t happen to anyone else. But here’s the catch Blizzard is upfront about: the patch does not repair characters that are already stuck. Quest progress on affected characters is unchanged, which means if your character already ate a Splinter early, patching the game won’t save them.

Already stuck? Here’s the official workaround

If your character is already affected, Blizzard’s workaround is to create a new character in the same partition and complete the seasonal questline there. Once you do, Prime Evil Powers unlock for all characters in that partition — so you don’t lose access permanently, but your bugged character can’t fix itself directly.

One detail worth getting right before you roll that alt: the game treats Normal, Hardcore, Normal SSF, and Hardcore SSF as separate partitions. Make the new character in the same one as your stuck character, finish the questline, and the whole partition gets the powers.

Baal’s loot, Horadric rerolls, and boss cleanups

Beyond the headline fix, 3.2.3 clears out several other pain points:

  • Baal’s loot is actually reachable again. A spawn-position issue with Tyrael after the Baal fight could leave his body — and the loot — in an awkward spot. Fixed.
  • Horadric Cube rerolls are fully unlocked. Four affixes that the Cube previously refused to reroll — Impairment Reduction, Barrier Generation, +Healing, and Critical Strike Damage — are now fair game. If you’ve been hoarding gear with a dead roll, this is your patch.
  • Boss-fight polish. The Waking Nightmares encounter and the Necromancer class quest both got optimizations and fixes, including an issue where whole-bone drops weren’t always awarded during the class quest.
  • Stability improvements across performance, graphics, and UI, per the full notes.

What to do when you log in today

If you never touched a Splinter early: just update and play — the bad sequence is no longer possible. If you’re one of the unlucky ones, don’t keep banging your head against the broken questline; roll a fresh character in the same partition, run the seasonal story, and collect your Prime Evil Powers for everyone there. And if you were holding onto gear waiting for a proper Horadric reroll, today’s the day to dust off the Cube.

Patch 3.2.3 (Build #73883) is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
